Well I’ve just had my last night’s sleep on US soil and luckily I had the lovely Rebecca to keep me company. It’s a miserable day here, 11 degrees and raining! WTF LA???? I thought you were supposed to be warm and full of sunshine??
This afternoon I’m going on a Hollywood tour hosted by a local tour guide by the name of Kelly Strnad who works for Toursbylocals.com. Hopefully the weather might become a little nicer by this afternoon in time for my tour.
Rebecca is off to San Francisco today for another week of modelling but before she took flight, I managed to fit in a quick Instagram shoot with her in my Holiday Inn LAX room this morning.
My second day of shooting at Fest X started with an early morning session with Vancouver model, Meghan.
I chose to shoot at Casa Dracula because of the beautiful morning light which spills around the grounds and into the many rooms and I thought Meghan would really suit the soft natural feeling that I was trying to achieve. I think I was right
Meghan was a real pleasure to work with and I really hope she can make it down to Australia in the near future as I would really love to work with her again soon.
My second serious artistic nude photo shoot came quite a few years after that first bumbling effort way back in art college. After spending the years since I left college photographing wildlife and landscapes, I decided it was about time I started photographing people again and to explore the human form genre once again.
I had received a travel notification from a Melbourne model to say she was going to be staying on the Gold Coast and was looking for photographers to shoot with. Her name was Alexa Star and she had quite an impressive portfolio of artistic nude work so I of course jumped at the opportunity to work with her. Alexa has now swapped to the other side of the camera and is shooting some impressive art nude and glamour work of her own.
The shoot was to take place in one of the many hotels on the Gold Coast so armed with my Bowens studio lights, a medium format camera, some rolls of 120 Tmax 400 and a little trepidation, I headed down the M1 to meet Alexa.
Despite my nervousness, the shoot went extremely well. Of course when you are working with a model of Alexa’s experience, how could it not! I’m sure I will mention it in many, many posts to come but I can’t emphasise enough how much the quality of your model can impact the results of your photo shoot. Working with a model that knows how to pose and position every part of her body in a way that really flatters herself is extremely important and really takes the pressure off.
So anyway, here’s some results from that Gold Coast photo shoot with Alex Star.
